ENL Blaze Qualify for the Play Offs

08/03/2010

The Coventry ENL Blaze eased to a 5-1 victory away at the already relegated Kingston Jets in a result mathematically confirms their qualification in this season’s Play-offs. Rikki Bryniarski sealed another “Man of the Match” performance with a goal and was joined on the score sheet by Tom Pease, Gareth Owen and Josh Bruce. Tom Ledgard also marked his return to the ice following a concussion injury with a goal.

With just two regular season games left, at home to the Trafford Metros with Saturday (13th March 2010) and the away to the Metros the following weekend, the ENL Blaze need just one more point to secure fourth place in the league. A win over the Metros would also see them eliminated from the Play-offs which mean that they have everything to play for this Saturday evening.

The play-off format in the ENL this season is that the op six teams qualify and will be placed in two groups of three teams, Group One with the 1st, 3rd and 5th placed teams and Group Two with the 2nd, 4th and 6th placed teams.

Elsewhere in the ENL North 1 the game between the Whitley Bay Warriors and the Nottingham Lions, billed as the Championship decider, was won with a late goal by the Warriors 4-3. This win puts the Warriors above the Lions, who have led the league all season, with just a couple of game remaining and a win over the bottom side, Kingston Jets, in two weeks time will see Whitley Bay lift the league title.
