The Genting Casino Coventry Blaze are pleased to confirm the signing of Canadian defenceman Nick Grima for the 2026/27 Elite League season.

The 27-year-old joins the Blaze after spending the past two seasons with the ECHL’s Indy Fuel, where he recorded 28 points (three goals, 25 assists) in 112 regular-season appearances, adding one assist in nine playoff games.

A 6-foot, right-shot blueliner, Grima previously completed a four-year collegiate career with the Toronto Varsity Blues. During his time with the Varsity Blues, he registered 41 points (nine goals, 32 assists) in 67 games and helped the team reach the U Sports playoffs in each of his final three seasons.

The Toronto native led all Varsity Blues defencemen in scoring during both the 2023/24 and 2021/22 campaigns.

Before moving to the university ranks, Grima spent five seasons in the OHL with the Peterborough Petes, Sarnia Sting and North Bay Battalion. He also participated in the 2018 development camp of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Grima finished his OHL career with 111 points (14 goals, 97 assists) and established himself as a reliable two-way defenceman known for his puck-moving ability and consistency from the back end.

Head Coach Kevin Moore said, “Nick is a defenceman who is very detailed in his approach at both five-on-five and on special teams. He has good gaps, is physical along the boards and makes a great first pass. Nick will also strengthen the character in our dressing room as he is a hard worker and a good communicator. We look forward to having Nick in Coventry this season.”
