Assistant Coach Zach Vinnell Departs Blaze

The Genting Casino Coventry Blaze would like to extend their best wishes to Assistant Coach Zach Vinnell, who has made the difficult decision to move on from the club to pursue an opportunity in North America.

Vinnell made a strong impression in his single season with the Blaze, demonstrating his versatility and commitment to the organisation. In addition to his coaching duties, he stepped up when needed on the ice, lacing up his skates for 12 games and contributing six points (one goal, five assists).

The Canadian joined the Blaze in the summer of 2024 alongside Head Coach Kevin Moore, with whom he shares a longstanding connection dating back to their time together with the ECHL’s Indy Fuel.

Prior to his coaching role, Vinnell was part of the Sheffield Steelers team that captured the Elite League Grand Slam in the 2023/24 campaign.

Before turning professional, Vinnell played NCAA hockey at Merrimack College from 2019 to 2022, earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration, followed by a master’s degree from Bowling Green State University in 2022/23.

Reflecting on Vinnell’s departure, Head Coach and Director of Hockey Kevin Moore said: “I’d like to wish Zach all the best in the next step of his career. I’m happy to have been a part of his coaching journey, and I look forward to seeing where his career takes him. I learned a lot from working with Zach, and I’m grateful for our partnership last season. Thanks for your contributions to the Blaze, and good luck.”

Vinnell commented, “I want to say a big thanks to the Coventry Blaze for giving me the opportunity to get my feet wet and gain invaluable experience in my first season of coaching. The Blaze are in good hands, and I’m excited to see the continued growth in the right direction. Special shout out to Kevin, Mike, Andy, Ethan, Nicola, John, and all of the other off-ice staff, the players, and of course our great fans. All the best for the 2025/26 campaign.”

Though his time in Coventry was short, Vinnell quickly became a popular and respected member of the Blaze family. We thank him for his professionalism, passion, and dedication, and wish him continued success in the next chapter of his career.
