The Genting Casino Coventry Blaze completed a clean sweep of victories of the Milton Keynes Lightning in their first weekend of pre-season, winning 2-5 at Planet Ice, MK on Sunday.
Both teams opted to change their netminder from the previous night’s 8-3 Blaze victory at Skydome Arena with Nolan Kent starting in place of Taran Kozun for Coventry and Will Kerlin coming in for Jordan Hedley at the opposite end.
Blaze scored three straight goals on the powerplay on Saturday and their special teams stayed hot with Man of the Match J.D. Dudek opening the scoring for the visitors at 6.49.
A second on the man advantage came for Coventry on 11.17 as Kobe Roth finished from Kim Tallberg.
MK hit back with a powerplay goal of their own on 23.25 through former Blaze forward Dillon Lawrence.
The score was tied 2-2 on 27.00 when Callum Field re-directed an Edward Knaggs shot past Kent and into the Blaze net.
Coventry responded immediately, though, and Dudek’s second just 44 seconds later re-gain the lead for the Elite League side.
Tallberg’s effort at 31.09 gave Blaze a deserved two goal advantage and the Swede was to wrap up the scoring at 52.11 for a final score of 2-5.
