Blaze Extend Two-Way Deal with Thorpe
The Genting Casino Coventry Blaze are pleased to confirm that British defenceman Billy Thorpe will continue his development on a two-way contract with the club.
Thorpe, 20, appeared in 36 regular-season games for the Peterborough Phantoms last season, registering five points (one goal, four assists). He also featured in eight playoff games, adding one assist, as the Phantoms reached the NIHL Playoff Final.
The upcoming campaign will be Thorpe’s fourth with the Phantoms, following his rise through the Peterborough youth system. In 2022/23, he celebrated an NIHL Cup victory with his hometown club, and in 2023/24, he played a key role in their successful playoff run.
Head Coach Kevin Moore said, “Billy was someone who impressed us last season in both his professionalism and the details in his defensive game. He is someone who has a bright future and we are excited to be apart of his development for this season.”
McKenzie Retains Phantoms Link
The Blaze have granted permission for British forward Zaine McKenzie to continue his development with the Peterborough Phantoms, allowing him to play for the NIHL side when deemed appropriate.
McKenzie featured in 15 games for the Phantoms last season, contributing five points (two goals, three assists).
Moore continued, “Peterborough is an organisation with a winning culture that makes a commitment to development and I am very happy that we can continue our relationship with them this season.”
