The Genting Casino Coventry Blaze are pleased to announce the re-signing of Canadian defenceman Connor Russell for the 2026/27 Elite League season.
Russell enjoyed a strong debut campaign in Coventry, recording 20 points (three goals, 17 assists) across 56 appearances in all Elite League competitions.

The 30-year-old joined the Blaze following four seasons in the ECHL, where he established himself as a reliable and dependable presence on the blue line. During the 2025/26 season with the Jacksonville Icemen, the 6’2” defenceman posted 12 points (two goals, 10 assists) and an impressive +22 plus/minus rating in 58 regular season games.
Across his ECHL career, Russell has made 189 regular season and playoff appearances, contributing 31 points (three goals, 28 assists).
Prior to turning professional in 2021/22, the Guelph, Ontario native spent three collegiate seasons between the University of Ottawa and Brock University in uSports, alongside a season with the Dundas Real McCoys in ACH.

During his junior career in the BCHL, Russell recorded 64 points (13 goals, 51 assists) in 163 games with the Prince George Spruce Kings, Cowichan Valley Capitals, and Penticton Vees.
Head Coach Kevin Moore said: “Connor is someone who is team-first to his core. He is willing to do whatever it takes to win games and is a hugely valued member of our defensive group. We’re extremely appreciative that he’ll be back for the 2026/27 season.”

Russell added: “It was an easy decision to re-sign and continue playing in front of the best fans in the league. I love the atmosphere at the Skydome, and I can’t wait for the organisation, the fans, and David Clements – who has done things the right way for 11 years – to celebrate a trophy in Coventry.”
