Alderson fires Blaze past Flyers

A Brandon Alderson hat-trick helped the Genting Casino Coventry Blaze complete a four-point weekend with a convincing 7-2 victory over the Fife Flyers at Skydome Arena on Sunday.

Blaze took an early lead through captain Kim Tallberg, who capitalised on a misjudgement by Flyers goalie Janis Voris behind the net, scoring into the open goal. Tallberg’s strike was the only goal in an even first period.

Coventry took control in the second. Nick Seitz netted his first of the game at 25.51, firing home a precise cross-ice pass from Jack Hopkins.

Alderson then opened his account at 26.33, converting a one-timer from Chase Gresock and Tallberg.

Seitz added Coventry’s fourth, beating Voris after the Elite League’s top assister, Mike Regush, provided a lovely drop pass.

Blaze extended their advantage to 5-0 just 39 seconds into the third period when Alderson snapped home his second, assisted by Seitz and Alessio Luciani, who collected his second assist of the night.

Tallberg, earning his third point of the game, then set up Alderson for his hat-trick at 48.32, with Regush collecting a further assist to take his season tally to 36.

Just nine seconds later, it was 7-0 as Morten Jurgens found the net from Zaine McKenzie and Mike Kennedy.

The Flyers broke Mat Robson’s shutout at 54.10 when Patrick Kyte made it 7-1 in unfortunate fashion for the outstanding Blaze goalie, with the puck deflecting in off his pads.

A further consolation followed for Fife at 58.12 when Phelix Martineau was allowed too much space and fired home to wrap up the scoring at 7-2.
