The Genting Casino Coventry Blaze were beaten 5-1 in the Challenge Cup at Vindico Arena on Saturday.
Nolan Kent got the start in net for the Blaze who welcomed back American forward J.D. Dudek into the line-up. Oliver Endicott’s of Leeds Knights was also made part of the Coventry squad in the absence of Brit Nathan Ripley.
Jamie Arniel opened the scoring for the Devils at just 1.09 and things got worse for Blaze at 9.36 when Riley Brandt made it 2-0.
Sam Duggan who iced for Blaze in the Elite Series registered on 15.56 to give the home side a strong 3-0 lead after the opening period.
Coventry scored the only goal in the second period through Captain Brady Norrish on the powerplay at 38.05.
Two quick goals by Josh Waller to begin the third period (41.50 and 42.31) ended any hopes of a Coventry comeback as the Devils added two additional points to their Challenge Cup tally.
