The Genting Casino Coventry Blaze claimed an important 3-4 victory over Guildford Flames, moving into second place in the Elite League standings.
The game began in explosive style as Coventry almost took the lead on their opening shift, but Alessio Luciani’s attempt narrowly missed the empty net with Flames goalie Eamon McAdam stranded.
Guildford capitalised on their first powerplay opportunity at 3.50, with Jake Jacome firing a one-timer past Coventry netminder Mat Robson.
However, their lead lasted just nine seconds, as Luciani responded swiftly for the Blaze, converting Nick Seitz’s feed to level the game at 1-1. The opening period ended without further scoring, despite chances for both sides.
McAdam was instrumental in the early stages of the second period, making several key saves for the home side. However, at 24.06, Blaze Man of the Match Luciani netted his second goal of the game with a deflected effort to give Coventry a 1-2 lead.
The Blaze extended their advantage at 36.32 when Grayson Constable capitalised on a Flames turnover to score on a breakaway unassisted.
Guildford responded late in the period through Lewis Hook, who pounced on a loose puck to narrow the deficit to 2-3.
Moments later, Ethan Strang almost equalised for the Flames, but Robson’s impressive pad save preserved Coventry’s lead heading into the final period.
Blaze struck early in the third, restoring their two-goal advantage at 48.35 with a thunderous slapshot from Brandon Alderson on a powerplay. His fifth of the season on the man advantage.
Guildford’s efforts to fight back intensified, and they pulled their goaltender with just over three minutes remaining.
The Flames earned a 6-on-4 power play following a penalty on Mike Kennedy, and debutant Great Britain International Sam Jones scored with 23 seconds left.
However, the resilient Coventry held firm to secure the crucial 3-4 road victory.
