The Genting Casino Coventry Blaze completed their pre-season campaign with a 2-4 win against Manchester Storm at the Storm Shelter on Wednesday night.
J.D. Dudek gave the visitors a 0-1 lead, converting shorthanded at 15.18 which was the only goal of the first period.
Just after the halfway mark, each team changed their netminder to give their British back-up opportunity with Will Bray replacing Nolan Kent for Coventry and Alex Oldale coming in for Evan Weninger for Manchester.
With a smart finish at the back-post Andreas Heier was to tie the game for the Storm at 32.59 and they then quickly took the lead via a one-timer from Tyler Hinam at 33.25.
It looked as though the Storm were going to hold on to their lead, but it all changed in the final five minutes of the game.
One second ahead of the 55-minute mark, Ian McNulty beat Oldale to tie the game 2-2 and just over a minute later (56.08) Cole Donhauser opened his account for Blaze with what turned out to be the game winning goal.
McNulty’s second of the night into the empty net ended the scoring and gave Coventry a pleasing 2-4 road victory ahead of competitive action beginning this weekend.
