Blaze use OT to defeat Clan again

The Genting Casino Coventry Blaze used overtime for a second consecutive night to defeat the Glasgow Clan 3-2 at Skydome Arena on Sunday.

Despite arriving home from Scotland in the early hours it was the Blaze who came out full of energy in the first period, heavily outshooting their opponents 18-8.

However, Antti Karjalainen in the Clan goal wasn’t to be beaten while Taran Kozun at the opposite end also stopped what was thrown at him.

Luke Lynch was to find the breakthrough after the Clan won a puck battle in the Coventry zone and finished neatly past Kozun at 25.22.

Three powerplay opportunities came and went for the Blaze and there was relief when they managed to tie the game through Ian McNulty who re-directed a David Clements shot into the net at 33.17.

Coventry were stunned again at 48.34 when Bryce Reddick put Glasgow ahead for a second time, and after hitting the goal posts for a third time, Blaze could have been forgiven for thinking it just wasn’t going to be their night.

But coach Danny Stewart was brave and pulled his goalie for the extra skater early and it paid dividends as Man of the Match Kim Tallberg tied the game at 58.33 and for the second night in a row sent it to overtime.

In the additional period, like the night previous it was Blaze who found a winner, this time through the Elite League’s top point-producer Danny Kristo whose snipe at 62.06 completed a four-point weekend for Coventry and a seventh win in a row.
