The Genting Casino Coventry Blaze bounced back from Saturday night disappointment to beat the Dundee Stars 1-4 and take home two points from their Scottish double header.
The opening period was a physical affair with both Lucas Brine and Taran Kozun busy in net.
Dundee had the puck in the net late in the period, but Spencer Naas’ effort was ruled out due to it being kicked into the goal.
Coventry broke the deadlock when Alessio Luciani found space and fired past Brine at 21.36 with Johnny Curran and Carter Allen credited with assists.
Carter Johnson tied the game for Stars six seconds after the mid-way point but at 36.52 their discipline got the better of them.
After Elijah Vilio was assessed a slashing penalty, Ryan Valentini was handed a further minor penalty for abuse of official and Blaze’s top scorer Kobe Roth made them pay by scoring on the resulting 5-on-3 at 37.12.
The came continued to in its chippy nature and at 47.42 Dundee’s Chris McKay was chucked from the game for boarding on Coventry’s Ian McNulty.
With top point scorer McNulty receiving treatment, Blaze weren’t able to capitalise on the five minute powerplay, but did find a third shortly after the major penalty had expired.
Kim Tallberg was the scorer, assisted by rugged defenceman Allen who collected two points on the night.
Brine was pulled for the extra skater in the final minutes, which allowed Roth to score his second goal into the empty net and wrap up the two points for Coventry at 57.16.
