Blaze edge past Flyers

The Genting Casino Coventry Blaze secured a hard-fought 2-3 victory over Fife Flyers on Sunday night in Kirkcaldy, securing a three-point weekend and maintaining their momentum as the playoff push continues.

The visitors got off to a perfect start, taking the lead just 51 seconds into the game when Alessio Luciani found the net, assisted by former Flyer Brady Pouteau. However, the home side responded strongly, equalizing at 14.34 through Lucas Chiodo before Daniel Krenželok gave the hosts a 2-1 advantage late in the first period.

Blaze came out firing in the second period, levelling the game at 26.06 with Luciani’s second goal of the night, assisted by Nick Seitz.

Just three minutes later, Seitz turned scorer, slotting home the game-winner past Janis Voris at 29.09 with an assist from Alexander Kuqali.

The third period saw Coventry maintain their defensive resilience, successfully killing off a minor penalty against Jackson Cressey.

With under two minutes remaining, Morten Jurgens was called for tripping, prompting Fife to use their timeout and pull their goaltender for the extra attacker.

However, Blaze held firm, preventing any serious threats on Mat Robson’s net and securing the vital two points.

The win extends Coventry’s strong run of form as they look to build on this momentum heading into the playoffs.

Blaze next face a three-in-three weekend, travelling to Manchester Storm on Friday, before moving on to Glasgow Clan on Saturday. They then host the Storm back home at Skydome Arena on Sunday (5.30pm).
